Celebration scenes

'Celebration Scenes' is a series of performances and installations around the aesthetics and rituals of celebration and consumerism. It is an experiment with the unwritten rules of 'gezelligheid', with the spectator in the leading role.

Recurring elements are bar tables, flowers, flags and balloons, party tents, photo cakes, bubbles, disposable items, and the urge to capture festive moments on camera. The performances play with the element of time by continuously building up and breaking down, and repeating images. There are constant references to previous acts.

DJ/producer Hyper Octane contributed to "Celebration Scenes part II: Cava Moment" with a soundscape that included toasting glasses, cutlery on disposable plates, a smoke machine and a fire alarm, set to an ominous bass line composed for the festival stage's Funktion One sound system.

Artist/goldsmith Anouk van Klaveren (Das Leben am Haverkamp) contributed to "Celebration Scenes part IV: The Buffet" with a series of salty sticks made of copper with crushed pearls and opal as salt crystals.
