Amorfortia
Amorfortia explores the people, communities, and events shaping Amersfoort from prehistoric times to today. The interactive exhibition highlights untold stories from minorities, and present-day residents who live and work in the city.
The visitor journey begins with an intro show starring an existing scale model of the city, on which a new animated layer is projected. The second gallery showcases the gigantic masterpiece Gezicht op Amersfoort surrounded by translucent forest prints, creating the sensation of emerging from the woods onto a view on the oil-painted city. The colonial history of Amersfoort is presented in a dark and narrow alley, before arriving to the oldest room, where medieval features like wall paintings uncover historic habitation of the building. The scenography centers around a big fireplace, giving a sense of connection to the past: people have gathered here and told their stories for many centuries.
→ Soft and secluded spaces were created using prints on translucent fabrics, allowing visitors to slow down and contemplate.
→ 3D scans were made of several collection highlights, inviting visually impaired guests, children, and anyone who wants to, to explore the printed objects by sense of touch.
